Ben was admitted as a solicitor in 1988 and has been a chartered arbitrator since 2005. He joined Ince and Co in 1986 and was a partner of that firm from 1995 -2004. Having spent some time with a US law firm, he founded Horn [+] Co in 2008 in order to provide a high quality alternative to other shipping law firms.
He specialises in all aspects of dry shipping, International trade and Insurance and has extensive experience in dealing with disputes under all the usual contract forms in use in the shipping and off shore industry. He has been involved in literally hundreds of maritime arbitrations conducted under the LMAA rules as well as ICC and LCIA arbitrations. Some of the important reported shipping cases in which he has handled over the years include Houda, Rialto, Jay Bola, Atlantic Emperor as well as the Fruitshippers and Silver Carriers litigation.
He is editor of the Arbitration Law Handbook (Informa -2007), a supporting member of the LMAA, a member of the panel of arbitrators maintained by each of the Singapore International Arbitration Commission and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission and is available to accept appointments as arbitrator.

Chris was admitted as a solicitor in 1987. His recent work has involved him in a wide range of contentious and non contentious shipping and non shipping work. On the shipping side, he has been involved in handling major casualty investigations, the negotiations for the sale of a super yacht, cargo claims and defences, charterparty and shipbuilding disputes as well as disputes arising under FFA contracts and in consequence of foreign bankruptcy procedures.
On the non contentious side his practice extends to advising clients of the firm in connection with commercial agreements, joint ventures and corporate structure including advising in connection with the complex issues arising out of the liquidation of a major UK based ship owner and charterer, including supervision of NY litigation that has ensued.
Akshay Misra- Trainee Solicitor email Akshay
Akshay grew up in a family of seafarers. He has a LLB degree and a LLM from Newcastle University. He has recently completed a research project for the Smith School of Environment at Oxford University. Prior to joining the firm, Akshay worked for an International Group Club where he gained experience in dealing with a wide range of P and I and FD and D matters.
Akshay is a keen adventurer and was part of an expedition that successfully reached the North Pole in 2008 raising in the process funds for two charities. He also enjoys running, cricket, swimming and bouldering.
Chris Beesley- consultant
Chris is an admiralty specialist having extensive experience of dealing with all sorts of marine casualty claims for ship owners and their insurers. Major casualties which he has handled include most of the major international cruise ship casualties of the last 20 years, a number of recent piracy incidents and numerous high value collision and salvage cases.
He has been a consultant with Horn [+] Co since 2008. Prior to that Chris was with Ince and Co for 36 years leading their wet shipping practice. In 1979 he opened their first overseas office in Hong Kong. On returning to the UK in the mid 80's Chris applied the commercial acumen developed through working in Asia to the needs of Clients operating nearer to home particularly in Greece, Turkey, the United States, Scandinavia and Russia. Chris continues to run his own successful claims consultancy, C Solutions Limited, formerly known as Incite Claims Management.
Jim Allsworth-consultant
Jim was with Ince and Co for almost 20 years, being an integral part of their wet team. He has extensive experience in dealing with all aspects of salvage, collision and wreck removal. He is now managing director of CSolutions Limited and has been a consultant to Horn[+]Co since 2009, providing expertise in all areas of wet shipping.
